Improving Metadata Standards in the State of Oklahoma Through Training and Outreach

The goal of the project is to expand metadata creation and implementation in the State of Oklahoma. Strategic Consulting International (SCI) will provide metadata training and support to rural, local, regional, and State organizations and agencies through training, metadata creation assistance, clearinghouse services, and web-mapping services. Specifically, SCI proposes to:

  • Conduct a series of free metadata seminars and workshops in the State of Oklahoma. Likely candidates for training include, but are not limited to: the City of Norman, the City of Owasso, the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality, the Oklahoma Water Resources Board, the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food, and Forestry, the Oklahoma Conservation Commission, the Oklahoma Corporation Commission, the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation, and the Osage Nation
  • Aid organizations in metadata training, creation, implementation, and support
  • Serve as a repository for metadata/geospatial data for those organizations lacking the wherewithal to serve their data
  • Partner with existing clearinghouses to create a unified clearinghouse
  • Work with the Oklahoma GIS Council to ensure the adoption of statewide metadata standards congruent with FGDC Content Standard for Digital Geospatial Metadata, Version 2
