Partnering with ESRI (software provider) and Rhode Island
Geographic Information System (RIGIS; data provider), Rhode
Island's Environmental Data Center (data distributor) will
establish new Framework Web Feature Services that reflect the
Governmental Units, Hydrography, and Transportation Framework themes.
The plan is to offer all vector data that are both available in the
RIGIS database and relevant to these three themes, via WFS by the
conclusion of this project. Geographic coverage consists of the State
of Rhode Island including Narragansett Bay and adjacent coastal waters.
These new offerings will be supported by Internet-based tutorials
available through the Rhode Island Geospatial One-Stop, and will
naturally be incorporated into geospatial technology workshops run by
the University of Rhode Island Geospatial Extension Program. It is
expected that this suite of new services will be eventually used to
augment the capacity of The National Map.
