Providing an OpenGIS Web Feature Service for North Carolina’s Geodetic Control Framework Layer

As a collaborative endeavor, the North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources (NC DENR) Information Technology Services Division (ITS) and the North Carolina Geodetic Survey (NCGS) will partner with IONIC Enterprise to develop and deploy an OpenGIS compliant Web Feature Service (WFS). In conjunction with this effort, they are migrating NCGS’s legacy data repository, containing first, second and third order horizontal and vertical geodetic control monuments, to an Oracle  relational database schema that is part of NC DENR’s IBEAM enterprise repository. To  provide the maximum usability of this framework data, they will spatially enable the database using ESRI’s Spatial Database Engine (SDE) middleware and publish the WFS using the RedSpider Web software.

NC DENR will provide full access to the NCGS’s geodetic control framework data layer via an OGC WFS service to a number of state and federal government programs that support the National Spatial Data Infrastructure (NSDI):

  1. The NC OneMap Project
  2. The National Map
  3. GeoSpatial One-Stop
  4. Federal Geographic Data Committee Data Clearinghouse
