Strategic and Business Plan Development in Support of the NSDI Future Directions Fifty States Initiative
The goal of this project will organize State of Florida stakeholders through a series of facilitated meeting. These meetings will foster multi-jurisdictional and multi-tiered collaboration for the production of a strategic plan. The resulting efforts will facilitate the implementation of National Spatial Data Infrastructure in Florida.
Florida has been long been a leader in the development, implementation, and use of geospatial technologies. Statewide GIS coordination has primarily been achieved through informal collaboration among managers and regional user groups. Stakeholders recognize that a formalized approach is needed to further establish Florida’s geospatial infrastructure and promote data discovery and access. This strategic plan is a crucial step in defining the criteria, characteristics, and activities that will lead to coordination. This project will organize stakeholders, and, through a series of facilitated meetings, explore the National States Geographic Information Council’s (NSGIC) recommended coordination criteria, codify those which may already be achieved, and identify additional criteria to achieve. The goal of this project will be creating a multi-jurisdictional (state/region/county/city) and multi-tiered (policy maker/IT leadership/GIS leadership) collaboration which enables the production of a strategic plan supported by a wide array of Florida’s governmental structures to identify the means, appoint authorities, obtain executive support, and obtain funding to accomplish further coordination between federal, state, regional, local, and tribal governments; universities; and private stakeholders within Florida’s geospatial community.
